Dismas House

Dismas House provides safe, stable housing and supportive services for men transitioning from incarceration, creating opportunities for residents to rebuild their lives while strengthening the surrounding community. Located on a challenging half-acre urban infill site along Charlotte Avenue, the four-story development transformed an underutilized triangular parcel into a welcoming residential campus that combines transitional housing, independent living apartments, career resources, and community gathering spaces.

The site's location was intentionally selected to connect residents with employment opportunities, public transportation, and essential daily services. Situated along a major transit corridor with direct access to multiple bus routes, the development encourages independence by making jobs, healthcare, education, and other community resources easily accessible without relying on personal vehicles.

CSDG provided civil engineering services to support the successful redevelopment of this constrained urban site. Our team designed the site's grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, stormwater management, and permitting strategy while carefully responding to the unique challenges created by the site's triangular shape, adjacent active rail line, and busy arterial roadway. Through close coordination with the design team and local agencies, the civil design maximized the site's development potential while providing safe access, efficient infrastructure, and a resilient foundation for a project that serves both its residents and the broader Nashville community.
