CSDG was founded in 2001 in Nashville, TN, by two skilled civil engineers with a shared vision: to deliver innovative, practical solutions through thoughtful site design. As our clients’ needs evolved, so did we, strategically expanding our capabilities and evolving into CSDG, a fully integrated design firm offering land planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture. This transformation reflects our ongoing commitment to collaboration, efficiency, and creating lasting impact in the communities we serve. Today, we’re a trusted partner to architects, developers, homebuilders, and public agencies across the Southeast, designing spaces where life happens and shaping resilient, people-centered places built to serve generations to come.
CSDG was founded by Kevin Gangaware and Rob Porter with a pretty straightforward idea: do great civil engineering work and build a company people were excited to be part of. From day one, the focus was on strong relationships, practical problem-solving, and helping clients move projects forward with confidence.
As our clients’ projects became more complex, we realized that great projects work a whole lot better when the planners, engineers, and landscape architects are actually sitting at the same table. So, we brought talented planners and landscape architects onto the team and expanded our services beyond civil engineering. By bringing these disciplines under one roof, collaboration became faster, ideas became stronger, and clients no longer had to act as middlemen between multiple firms just to keep a project moving.
As the team kept growing, so did the energy around the office. With more than 40 employees and projects expanding across the region, we moved into the first Citiview campus building overlooking downtown Nashville. Somewhere between the project deadlines, team cookouts, holiday parties, and probably a few too many catered lunches, the culture became just as important as the work itself. It was the kind of environment people were excited to be part of, and one that helped us continue attracting talented people who genuinely enjoyed working together.
As our services expanded beyond civil engineering, we rebranded from Civil Site Design Group to CSDG to better reflect the integrated team we had become and the broader ways we were supporting our clients.
Recognizing the momentum and growth happening across Tennessee, we expanded with a new office in Chattanooga to better support the clients and communities shaping the region’s next chapter. Plus, it gave us another excuse to spend more time in one of the best cities in the state.
Today, we continue to grow by bringing planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture together under one roof to help our clients navigate complex projects with a little less friction and a lot more collaboration. By working as an integrated team, we’re able to solve challenges earlier, simplify the process, and create thoughtful places that are built to last.
